7th: One-Point Perspective Galaxy Drawings
Students in 7th grade learned about perspective. We began by learning how to create boxes above, below and on the horizon line, that all met at one point in the center. Then, we started to develop and create our town or city. All communities were constructed below or on the horizon line. Finally, we added details to our city or town, such as windows, doors, roads, sidewalks, plant-life, water, and a galaxy sky using splatter paint.
7th: Oil Pastel Desserts
Students in 7th grade researched the artist Wayne Thiebaud. He is a painter who is well known for his colorful works depicting commonplace objects. Particularly for this project we focused on his pies, cakes, ice cream, and pastries. Then, we picked our favorite dessert and began drawing it from observation and repeating it, a similar process to the artist they were studying. Next, we practiced using the medium, oil pastel. Oil pastel is not a forgiving medium and it is hard to work with at times, so we practiced. Finally, after everything we learned, our delicious desserts were finished and ready for viewing.
